23rd February : Teal.

A visit to the Wendover Canal in the rain wasn't very pleasant, but the ducks seemed to be enjoying it, as they say "good weather for ducks."
What was presumably the same pair of Shoveler from my last visit on 21st January were still there.
Mandarin Ducks were hidden away in the bushes, managed to spot 5 pairs & 2 single Drakes.

One of  two Little Egrets sat in the trees.

Nicely camouflaged with their heads down feeding were this pair of Teal, took us a while to spot the Duck as she blended in with her surroundings.

The Drake being more 'showy'

Heron looking rather forlorn beside a nearby ditch.

23rd February : Bird on a Wire.

Or in this case 193.... Linnets. Just a small fraction of a massive local Finch flock.

13th February : Roe Deer.

This Roe Deer had me under surveillance from it's position on the brow of the hill.
Shame about the mass of wires in the background.

9th February : Scarlet Elfcup.

Discovered a small clump of Scarlet Elfcups alongside the River Chess today.

A Muntjac thought it was hidden in the undergrowth nearby.

A wintering Chiffchaff darted through the overhanging branches along the water's edge, to quick for me to photograph.
The Herons were going about their business.

21st January : Red Kite.

Red Kites don't often hang about for long down on the ground, mainly preferring to swoop down to grab their food, presumably this individual was feeding on worms in the wet grass, allowing me to grab a quick photo over the hedge before it lifted off.

21st January : Shoveler.

A very confiding pair of Shoveler on the Wendover Arm of The Grand Union Canal today, obviously use to the constant stream of folks walking past.

14th January : Water Rail.

A highlight of a short walk along the urban section of the River Chess this morning was this Water Rail which briefly fed out in the open before disappearing around a bend in the river and wasn't seen again.

Little Egrets were more obvious with 4 seen at various spots along the river.

Grey Herons are in residence.

10th January : Starlings.

It's a rare sight to see a Starling in our garden, so it was good to have two visit for two days during this cold spell, though it needed a temperature of minus 7 degrees centigrade before the appeared, meaning they must have been getting desperate for food. Now that the temperature has recovered they've gone.

7th January : Bullfinches

With the snow having not melted, the Bullfinches on the feeder were looking stunning in the reflected light.

The young male Sparrowhawk sat watching again.
