For the last couple of weeks I've been checking the local cattle for Yellow Wagtails performing what appears to be a dangerous habit of feeding under the feet of feeding cattle, grabbing the insects they disturb as they munch on the grass. They quite often turn up locally while on migration at this time year. Persistence finally paid off this afternoon when I spotted a group a few fields away.
I gave Stewart a call; as he's a bit of a Dr Dolittle when it comes to livestock. We soon found them; maximum count on the ground being seven, but as they all took to the air their true number was revealled : eighteen.
